Yuka's internship experience in Team Tokyo

"Hi! My name is Yuka and I am a summer intern at Morgan McKinley Japan.

I came into the office on the first day feeling excited but nervous, not knowing what to expect. I joined the Front Office Financial Services team with little confidence and lots of anxiety, considering my lack of experience and knowledge in the industry. After just a few days in the office, I learned a lot from both the tasks I were given as well as from the people around me.

Some of my first tasks included creating job descriptions, gathering candidate information, and organizing the database, where I came across unfamiliar financial terms and job titles. I gained plenty of insight into jobs in the industry I would have never known existed, and began to develop interest in the field for my own future career. I’ve attended a candidate meeting and helped with consultants’ projects, where I learned more about the recruiting process, and at the same time gained knowledge about jobs and companies that I would never learn in school.

I’ve felt so fortunate to sit among such knowledgeable experts. Each day in the office I am able to fully absorb everything from listening on phone calls and team discussions, to learning about the various aspects of daily life in the corporate world. The Front Office Financial Services team has been consistently supportive and willing to help, teaching me valuable new things every day.

I particularly like the comfortable working environment, with the right balance of friendliness and professionalism in the office. The open space gives a feeling of team and belongingness while at the same time each member is always focused and motivated. The office is motivating rather than competitive, with leaderboards and incentives to celebrate successes, and consultants who work together and help each other.

So far, helping hardworking and passionate consultants with their projects has been an insightful and rewarding experience. The diversity of tasks I’ve been given has kept the experience exciting, and I’m looking forward to the new projects in the next two weeks."
