Why I joined Morgan McKinley Singapore

With over four years’ experience in recruitment and people management, I knew that I loved the industry, especially developing people and positioning them for growth. So, when the position of Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development Manager came up at Morgan McKinley, I jumped at the opportunity. However, it wasn’t just the role that convinced me to join the company, it was the people and their culture that really stood out.

It was made very clear that MMK don’t just recruit people who can do the job, they recruit people who will be able to live and breathe their culture - world class, high performance, fun, and collaborative. Having interviewed with seven different senior leaders, it was evident that their vision for this role and the company were very much aligned. This process enabled me to get a good understanding of the people I would be working with most closely, and really highlighted on the values they followed, which ultimately helps to push their business to new heights.

Since starting my role, I have been overwhelmed by the support not only by my colleagues in the Singapore office, but also the wider, global team I belong to. My first two weeks were spent in one to one training sessions, global conference calls, meetings and coffee catch ups, which ensured I was given a high-level understanding of my role and the people in the business.

In the last seven weeks I have witnessed an office which has a highly inclusive and supportive environment, where people from all backgrounds and experience come together and work hard to reach not just their individual goals, but also wider team and office goals. Such a vibrant and engaging atmosphere is a pure joy to work in.

It’s clear that the values and culture of the business are really driven by the managing director, director and managers, all the way through to the consultants and support staff within the office. Rather than simply posters on a wall, the values and culture are embedded into internal recruitment process, career pathways, appraisals, training and general day to day life.

Prior to joining the company, the full Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development function was managed by the talented directors and managers of the business, in addition to their usual business requirements. I must give them credit for the impressive work they have done hiring such strong talent, developing a fantastic culture and running the training programs and sessions already place.

As I start my eighth week with the Morgan McKinley Singapore team, I am very excited by the progress I have already made in my role, with internal job offers being made, plans to enhance the learning & development programs, and wholeheartedly embracing the Morgan McKinley culture, as their values and cultural ambassador. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me at Morgan McKinley!
