Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin ... Run Ger Run!

The Docklands were overflowing on Saturday with over 13,000 eager competitors who took part in this year’s ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin ½ Marathon’.

This race was the first that Ger FitzGerald and the Morgan McKinley team (Cormac Rogers, Jaclyn Doyle and Jane Hassett) took on as part of Ger’s MMK Million challenge, and what a great event to start off on!

The route took the contestants past many of Dublin’s treasured landmarks like Kilmainham Gaol, the Ha'penny Bridge and the Guinness Brewery at St.James’s Gate.

This was certainly no ordinary half marathon as the runners had to battle with a difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions from start to finish. The winning finishing time was 5 minutes later than what was recorded last year which gives an indication of how challenging the race was.

If anyone has experienced the gruelling struggle of the final mile in a race, then they will feel for Ger and the guys. The competitors battled against the final stretch with strong winds and they faced the toughest uphill climb of the whole race. So well done on the determination and resolve shown by the team in seeing it out to the end. It was great to see that Ger’s enthusiasm shined through from miles 1 to 13!

The guys received some great support from Joanna Langier and Ian Kinsella on the sidelines which definitely played a big part in motivating the guys throughout the race. This is the first of 6 half marathons that Ger will be taking on before the close of 2016, and judging by his strong first outing the rest should be a piece of cake.

Well done guys! #MMKMillion
