Board pledge #1 is completed by Richie Holliday | #MMKMillion

I am delighted to report the successful completion of my 2017 Morgan McKinley Million pledge – which was to run the TRANSLANTAU trail race, held annually on the beautiful island of Lantau in the South China Sea.

It is a 25km trail run over some serious mountains, and I was joined by a friend on the day to help push me for my best possible time. Under 3 hours was my target, and we eventually finished in 2hrs 58mins, which was really pleasing. I came 12th in my category (out of 100 runners in the "seniors" category... I shall try not to be offended!), and 45th overall (out of 350 runners). It was exhausting and much harder than I had expected, probably due to the humidity on the day, and the size of the hills.

The trail itself runs across stunning mountains – when there isn’t fog and low cloud to contend with. For those of you interested in giving Trail Running a try, I can strongly recommend it as a seriously different and fun way to tackle a new challenge.

Despite being fairly wobbly for a few days after the event, it was certainly worth all the effort – and I raised some much-needed funds for PARKINSON’S UK, my chosen charity to help find a cure for this terrible disease that can strike at random, has no known cure, affects one person in 500, and did for my old man in 2014.

I now (very) happily pass the pledge ‘baton’ to my fellow colleagues on the Board - watch this space for the next installment of our team commitment to the Morgan McKinley Million throughout the rest of 2017.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored and supported me to complete my pledge!
