Running for UNICEF, Hong Kong

Running in high temperatures and humidity is no easy feat, let alone running half a marathon in the same climate! But when you’re raising money to help prevent HIV and to provide medication for those with the disease, what’s a little heat and discomfort?

On the 24th November, 21 of our staff members from our Hong Kong office stepped out into the heat and ran 10km for UNICEF. Hosted at DisneyLand Resort on Lantau Island the event is organised by the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) and Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association. This run is not only the flagship fundraising event for UNICEF HK, it’s also the second largest distance running event in Hong Kong.

If you’re not a seasoned runner and don’t think you can run 10km, UNICEF also hosted a 3km and 5km fun run as well as a half marathon for those who really wanted to push themselves. Each run takes in the beautiful scenery of the coast, Inspiration Lake and of course, the best of Disney Land Resort.

Joined by circa 14,000 participants, the total money raised by all participants was an impressive HK$10 million. The money raised will go to UNICEF’s “Unite for children. Unite against AIDS” global campaign which combats mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS. So, the only question left to ask is, when will you be joining?
