Morgan McKinley heads to Investment 2020’s Insight Day

During the October half term, a dozen volunteers from Morgan McKinley’s London office partnered with Investment 2020 to lead a Networking Workshop for Sixth Form students looking to move into Asset Management.

In an interactive session, Morgan McKinley presented to over 50 students from schools in Greater London and from the Career Ready programme about how to develop their networking, presentation and communication skills. Starting with some theory behind networking, including how to give the best non-verbal first impression, students were then tasked with putting together their very own Elevator Pitch (just in case they find themselves in a lift with Sir Alan Sugar) which they then presented to fellow students and the Morgan McKinley Asset Management team.

The session went down a storm, with plenty of opportunity to practice their pitches in a ‘safe’ environment with our Consultants, who were able to give on the spot feedback and advice to help student build their confidence, perfect their handshakes and deliver the perfect open question. One student even said ‘this was one the best networking events I have been too!’ which was great to hear. We finished the session with some top tips on building your online brand, ensuring that LinkedIn and other social media sites are used responsibly, as an extension of your CV and personality.
