Morgan McKinley employees volunteer for our corporate charity

Dress for Success is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of women by providing them with professional clothing, interview training and a support network.

Morgan McKinley has been supporting the charity for almost a year now and it is great to see our employees coming forward and volunteering for such a worthy charity.

The charity firstly provides women with a professional outfit and then they seek the help of volunteers to give the women one-to-one interview training. Most of the women have been out of work for over a year. More than 40% of them are single parents and some of the women are ex-offenders and former drug addicts who live in homeless shelters and refuges. These women have the drive and determination to turn their life around and with the support and preparation offered at Dress for Success, they can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Over the past month, our employees have been taking time out of their day to provide interview training, CV analysis and outfit pairing for women to help them transition back into paid employment and give them the confidence they need to succeed. The women are in a safe environment which enables them to open up to the volunteers about any concerns or anxieties they have about job applications, how to develop their practical skills and even about how to present themselves.

Morgan McKinley offer 2 paid days off to devote to charitable activities so we encourage our employees to make use of their volunteering days to give something back to the community and embed their knowledge and skills on others. It is also a great opportunity for our employees to improve their own skills and share their experiences with others.

The volunteering days have been extremely well received and an enjoyable experience so far. Here are a few testimonials from our employees:

‘Dress for Success is a fantastic initiative to help disadvantaged women to go back to work by providing interview training and preparation, styling and CV revision.  Last Friday, I volunteered at their very cool offices on Brick Lane. I helped the other volunteers with interview training as well as styling. Lovely people and a great cause - get involved!’

I had a really good time at Dress for Success last week. I helped them put together a hand out to give their clients to make sure they were prepared as possible to go to their interviews. I also put together a CV and Cover letter document for them to give their clients. They need assistance with knowing how to prepare their clients thoroughly for interviews including competency based techniques. They are a lovely bunch to work with and I really enjoyed my time at Dress to Success, I felt like I really contributed and my time was well spent’

In addition to interview training, there are other ways to get involved with the charity including professional mentoring and career development workshops.

As you can see from the testimonials, volunteering has such a meaningful and positive impact on the community and it is refreshing to see so many employees spend their valuable time helping others and representing the Morgan McKinley brand.
