Internal Career Opportunities

Despite having been around for over 30 years and growing into a global company in over 10 countries, Morgan McKinley has managed to keep that collaborative, encouraging atmosphere. As our CEO, Ger, says ‘’we put our people first, so our people go further’’. Morgan McKinley knows that progress looks different to everybody and they can adapt career paths to individuals depending on their career goals. Over the last couple of years, Morgan McKinley has introduced a programme to explore internal opportunities both locally and internationally - our ‘Internal Career Opportunities’ programme.

I was never really sure what I wanted out of a career, I wanted something fast paced, with progression, team atmosphere and fun. When a friend recommended recruitment in Morgan McKinley. I did my research, looked into the company, the ethos, the career opportunities, the tenure of the staff and the global opportunities and not being one to turn down a challenge I said let’s give it a go!

One of the biggest draws for me was the opportunity to work abroad. Initially I thought there would be a lot of red tape, that the opportunity to move abroad was something offered but not really encouraged or I would have to be in a really senior position. How wrong was I?!

When I expressed an interest in moving abroad to my manager, she fully supported me through the process, introduced me to the right people and encouraged me to explore all my options. Additionally, the managing director spoke to me about the various offices he had visited and how his own move from our Singapore office to our Dublin office went for him.

There are plenty of benefits associated with moving to a new country and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

  • Accelerate your career
  • Develop personally and professionally
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Exposure to senior leaders
  • Involvement in more activities, projects, events, initiatives etc.
  • Work with global teams, learn about different cultures
  • Learn how various parts of the business work

For me, I have been able to get involved in global projects, meet and work with people from different backgrounds and enhance my recruitment skills. I have learned so much in the last 6 months.

Would I recommend an internal career move with Morgan McKinley? 100% - Getting the opportunity to move to a new country and already have a community of support from your workplace makes everything so much easier and less daunting. As with any big life change, it did take time to settle, meet new people, figure out my new role but it is definitely worth it.

The Morgan McKinley ethos, culture and Go beyond attitude is as strong in the London office as it is in the Dublin office!
