How I got to where I am today!

It’s certainly been a bumpy road but at least I’ve arrived here in one piece. And when I say ‘here’ I mean a few months down the line after joining one of the best recruitment agencies in the industry.

Even before I got into the world of recruitment I had always known the name Morgan McKinley. I didn’t know a whole lot at the time but I knew they were the guys to go to if you wanted a good job.

After college I spent 4 years working in Technical Support. I knew I wanted to work with people, but I wasn’t sure in what way. Technical Support certainly gave me plenty of customer interaction which I loved but there was always something missing.

I had considered going into recruitment but never knew how I could make the transition. Luckily one of my Tech Support colleagues made the jump via a contact in the industry, so I jumped straight onto that bandwagon and began my career in recruitment.

The first agency I worked for were really good and they offered me great opportunities, but I felt like something was missing. I noticed that Morgan McKinley were hiring and before you could say ‘Apply here’ I was bombarding them left right and centre with my CV – just in case they didn’t notice me the first time!

To say I was happy to get the job as an IT Consultant is a serious understatement. I had joined a well established, reputable recruitment firm where the opportunities to progress are endless. And this is most definitely as a result of the training they give you over the first 2 months. In all my professional career, both Technical Support and Recruitment, I’ve never experienced such a high level of training which has completely changed the way I look at my work.

The training was given by some of the most Senior Directors in the company who were able to share their wealth of knowledge on a wide selection of topics. It was mostly open discussions on certain scenarios which were directly related to our roles. This led to us asking questions about how to deal with certain situations and the trainers were more than happy answer.

I recruit for Infrastructure roles which include Technical Support and System Administrators, so most of my questions were related to my own experience in dealing with my candidates and certain situations. Everyday I walked out of training I was itching to get back to my desk to apply what I had learned because everything we were taught was going to help me become a better IT Consultant. Not a day goes by now where I don’t use some sort of technique or process which I’ve learned in training.

So this leads me to where I am today, still relatively new in the company but as a result of the high level of training, very confident in my ability to be a very successful IT Consultant.

So if you are in the IT industry and thinking about your next career move as a System Administrator or Technical Support Advisor please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at broche@morganmckinley.ie or phone 0212300300.
