Cycle for Haiti in Ireland

The Soul of Haiti Foundation is a charitable organisation which assists the people of Haiti by providing medical equipment, funding orphanages and assisting local fishermen by growing their trade opportunities.

Cycle4Haiti is the key fundraising event for the foundation. It is an annual cycle that takes place over the May Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland. An impressive 230K route has been mapped out across Ireland, starting in Dublin on the Saturday morning and finishing in Galway on Sunday evening.

In Morgan McKinley we are an active bunch (some more so than others!), two of my colleagues and good friends, Kate Flanagan and Fiadhnait Ní Shuilleabháin, took part in the cycle for the first time. They were joined by seasoned cyclists CEO, Pat Fitzgerald and Transformation Director, Aldagh McDonagh.

Outside of the long weekend practice cycles, the bike MOTs and the padded cycling shorts both Fiadhnait and Kate did some fantastic fundraising for the charity and got the whole office involved.

They ran a casual day for the office were all staff were asked to make a donation and they got the whole office to hold a bake sale (we were required to bake and eat!). Both events were hugely successful, Kate and Fiadhnait raised €540. In addition to this they went down the usual route of family, friends and colleagues and set up a ‘Just Giving’ page which raised them a further €630. Giving them a very impressive total of €1170 raised for Haiti!

I for one am very impressed and proud of my colleagues and what they achieved, cycling 230K in two days in not easy! They had the whole office behind them and we were very happy to be able to get involved and help in our own ways.
