A cold but warm winter – My experience at Morgan McKinley

Over the past 10 weeks I’ve had the pleasure of interning within the talent acquisition team in Sydney supporting the Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo offices.

Little did I know my experience here will set a positive foundation for my future. As a firm believer of practical experiences in challenging environments, this internship provided me with something that I would not have learnt from a university environment.

From the interaction with workmates to the application of theory – my time here was full of smiles and new learning experiences. I still remember the first day when I walked into the office; I was welcomed with warm greetings, being introduced to everyone one by one, people who I missed were kind enough to come by my desk and introduce themselves. The inclusive environment made me feel very comfortable to come into work knowing that I would not feel intimidated, left out or afraid to interact with someone. I am so glad that I met with not only some of the best in the recruitment industry but also the friendliest of professionals.

My highlight is before even starting anything, I was provided with a professional development plan. Honestly, I was quite surprised when I was given this; it was the first time in my life that I felt that a company really cared about the development of their employees. My manager went through it with me, and during my time here she really strived to help me achieve my goals. Knowing that I had a clear plan whilst having the support of others to help achieve my goals definitely made my time at Morgan McKinley a special one. My manager made sure that I got the most of my internship, and set the tasks each day around the goals that I wanted to achieve. It was more than just short term goals, the application of theory and new learning experiences; it was a plan that set the basis of helping me achieve my goals beyond the time I will spend in Morgan McKinley.

The time has come where I’d like to specially thank Anita Hui, Senior Marketing Executive Shanghai, for providing me with the opportunity to support you and gain experience. And to the two who took me under their wing for these past 10 weeks - Kirstine Forrester and Anouska Serich. I can confidently say that these two are the best of the best in their profession working hard recruiting for Morgan McKinley. They are extraordinary people, and I am so glad I got the opportunity to work with them. Specifically, Anouska Serich, my manager - thank you for being such an approachable person, always checking up on me and providing me with the opportunity to learn more.

Finally, I have a confession to make – the day I was being headhunted by Anouska, I had to think about it for quite some time before I decided to get back in contact, I wasn’t very eager to accept. But now looking back, I really do not regret my decision. It was definitely a cold but warm winter at Morgan McKinley for me.
